The dynasty of der Welfen, with Ernst August (born 1845 - died 1923), the former Crown Prince of Hanover, called himself Duke of Cumberland from 1878 onwards in Austrian exile since the house Hanover was politically banished. The Duke Ernst August of Cumberland built the castle of Cumberland between 1882 and 1886 and it became an imposing building. This is the first 'biography' of this castle, a history of the neo-Gothic style with elements of the renaissance and its inhabitants. Many unpublished photographs.
