"The Correspondence of the Empress Alexandra of Russia with Ernst Ludwig and Eleonore, Grand Duke and Duchess of Hesse. 1878-1916"
Edited by Petra H. Kleinpenning
The book will present essentially the full collection of letters and notes exchanged between Alexandra and Ernst Ludwig/Eleonore as preserved in the Hesse State Archive in Darmstadt and at GARF, Moscow. As Alexandra burnt most letters from her brother and sister-in-law during the days of the Russian Revolution, the vast majority of letters in this book was written by Alexandra. Also included are a small number of letters exchanged between Ernst Ludwig and Nicholas II.
The letters are presented in the languages in which they were written, meaning that the book includes both letters in English [written to or by Ernst Ludwig] and letters in German [written to Eleonore]. Many Europeans have a command of both languages , so they will be able to read 'the originals', but a professional translation of the German language letters is provided in a 30-pages appendix as a service to those readers who do not understand German.
