Meylan, Vincent - Un siècle d \'emeraudes
"Un siècle d 'emeraudes" is the first part in a series of three books grouped under the title: "La chase aux trésors de Van Cleef & Arpels". The author traces the legendary stones that marked the history of the famous jeweler. Using published and unpublished documents, photos - drawings, archives etc, he traces the fate of these legendary gems. The first part of these three books is devoted to the emerald. What happened to the fabulous emeralds of the Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia? They were sold by Barbara Hutton to Van Cleef & Arpels in the late 1960s and reassembled into modern jewelery. Where are the legendary emeralds of Empress Marie-Louise or those of the Queen of Yugoslavia today? These stones were bought by Van Cleef & Arpels from the descendants of these monarchs in the aftermath of the Second World War and still exist, but no one knows exactly on which decorations they were reassembled. With supporting documents, the author tells about his discoveries. The investigation takes us to Saint Petersburg with the Romanovs, to London with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, to Tehran, during the coronation of the last Pahlavis or to New York where many monarchs were exiled after the Second World War. The next two volumes, which will be released in 2021, will be devoted to rubies and diamonds. Hardback edition, French, size 17.5x22cm, 95 pages, more than 80 illustrations.
