The Duke - Der letzte Herzog

The Duke - Der letzte Herzog
This jubilee book is published on the occasion of the 75th birthday of Prince Andreas of Saxony Coburg and Gotha, but also on the occasion of his father's 100th birthday and that 100 years ago was the end of his grandfather's (Carl Eduard) reign as the last duke of this two duchies. This book describes the life of Carl Eduard, his first years as an orphan, the change from British to a German prince who stood completely on the side of the German emperor in the First World War. The November revolution marked a breakthrough in his life and his desperate search for a new task and identity that he eventually found in Hitler's third empire. Here he found opportunities and possibilities that went beyond what he already could afford. Especially in foreign policy, the former duke could represent the new German Empire in a brilliant way. He has worked here in various positions at a high level and could further develop his skills as a lobbyist, in particular as a mediator between England and Germany. Eventually he could not believe the dark side of the Nazi regime, his belief in the 'führer' and fear of futility made him an opportunist again. Prince Friedrich Josias has occupied himself intensively with the diary of his father at a later age, he has supplemented it with his own experiences and with critical considerations. Lively he describes the consequences of the revolution of 1945 for his entire family and why the nobles had to disappear because of this crises. This book contains a selection of more than 500 diary pages that give a very interesting picture of history, extensive notes ensure that a new historical research will be needed. The book contains many photographs from the private archive. Signed copy by Prince Andreas von Sachsen Coburg und Gotha. Hardback, in the German language, 430 pages, size 21x30 cm.
