Spiridovitch, - Last days of the Court of Tsarskoe Selo

Spiridovitch, - Last days of the Court of Tsarskoe Selo
Here, at last, is the first English translation of the memoirs of Général Alexandre Spiridovitch (1873-1952). Handpicked by Nicholas II himself, Spridovitch served as the personal security chief for the last tsar and his family from 1906-1916. He was also responsible for the security of the tsar’s residences. This first volume covers the years 1906-1910. Like a richly painted canvas, Spiridovitch’s memoirs offer the reader a glimpse into the private world of the last tsar of Russia and his family. His personal eye witness accounts reveal details about their day-to-day lives, the Imperial residences, as well as interesting assessments of the men and women at the Russian Court, including the grand dukes and grand duchesses, as well as ministers and other officials. Spiridovitch and his men were highly recognized for their counter-terrorist work. His memoirs reveal their efforts to protect the Emperor from revolutionaries working within Russia. Many of the 59 photographs in this book come from the private collection of the author himself who was an avid photographer. Spiridovitch was a pillar of honesty and trust, articulate, and intelligent, loyal to his God, the Tsar and Mother Russia. He was truly a gentleman beyond reproach. His memoirs offer one of the most honest and comprehensive accounts of the character and personality of Emperor Nicholas II during the twilight years of the monarchy.
