She was born as the daughter of the British diplomat and professor Lord Auckland Geddes and the American Isabella Gamble Ross. She worked for the British Red Cross in a youth prison. On November 17, 1937 she married in London with Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt (1908-1968). Almost the entire family of the brother of the groom, Georg Donatus of Hesse-Darmstadt, died while traveling to the wedding in a plane crash near Ostend (Belgium). In Germany, Margaret remained active for the German Red Cross and provided Wolfsgarten Castle as a military hospital during the Second World War. From 1957 she was Vice President of the German Red Cross Hesse and chairwoman of the Alice Hospital and the Eleonora Children's Hospital (today Darmstadt Children's Hospital Princess Margaret). She was a close friend of British Queen Elizabeth II. With her death the line Hessen-Darmstadt stopped, her inheritance fell to the line Hessen Kassel Rumpenheim. Together with her husband Ludwig, who died in 1968, she is buried in a simple community grave on the Rosenhöhe. Booklet, 36 pages, illustrated, size 15x21cm, in German.
