Ellenbeck, S - Prinzessin Alice von Griechenland, Prinzessin von
Alice von Battenberg was born into an English aristocracy family on 25 February 1885, no one could imagine what ups and downs this young princess would go through. Due to her intelligence and strong will, Alice learns to read and speak fluently different languages, despite her deafness. But even she cannot prevent the small family happiness from being overshadowed by European politics after her marriage to Andreas of Greece, she becomes a chess piece in the political ranks of the looming First World War. When she is diagnosed with schizophrenia, she leaves her husband. At the lowest point she is sent to a psychiatric institution. This time she decides to devote her life to the community, and so this noble woman begins a life among the poorest. During the Second World War, Alice campaigned for the poor people of Greece, prevented the deportation of a Jewish family to the extermination camps, and eventually founds a monastery in the Athens area. After her death in 1969, she left a visible legacy: her son Philip marries Queen Elizabeth II. However, Alice is not in the collective memory. The memory of her fades away over the years. This historical biography provides insight into a world that until now has been covered by the darkness of history. Through turbulent years, two world wars and years of exile, this biography accompanies the woman who goes down in history as the mother of the Prince Consort alongside Elizabeth II while she was so much more. A turbulent life, accurately traced on the basis of historical data and traditions. Part 1 - Birth and youth until 1922. Paperback edition, in German only, 486 pages, size 15x21cm.
