This first major monograph on Paleis Het Loo is about the building, furnishing, residents and gardens of the palace from the purchase by Prince William III in 1684 until its opening as a museum under Queen Beatrix in 1984. In the three centuries the palace was a residence to ten successive generations of the House of Orange. Het Loo became their most beloved summer palace, but also a destination for spectators and anyone who wanted to marvel at the splendor of this largest palace in the Netherlands. The less fortunate times of the palace and the comings and goings of the many outbuildings are also discussed. History is brought to life through diary fragments, travel journals and letters. The book is divided into nine chapters and contains 84 contributions by 21 authors, many of whom are employees and former employees of Paleis Het Loo. The coordination, composition and editing is by Anne-Dirk Renting. Other authors include Johan Carel Bierens de Haan, Johan de Haan, Hanna Klarenbeek, Johan ter Molen, Paul Rem and Heimerick Tromp. The book is published at the reopening of Paleis Het Loo in April 2022. Hardback edition, in the Dutch language, size 24x28cm, 688 pages, more than 500 illustrations.
