Exhibition catalogue. The "staged" magnificence of the monarchy, as expressed in fine castles, precious jewels or elegant robes, still obscures the view of real life at court. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death, the most important state archive in Stuttgart shows who King Wilhelm II of Württemberg (1848-1921) really was. In the circle of his student friends, with whom he has remained close all his life, he expresses himself unexpectedly openly. He describes the personal limitations, tells of an unfulfilled love, of sporting and cultural enthusiasm, of war and abdication. The still largely unknown tradition creates an exciting, highly ambivalent image of the last king of Württemberg. Paperback, 21x24 cm, in German, 92 pages, fully illustrated.
