Bran castle has a history dating back to the beginning of the thirteenth century. It is also known as the Castle of Dracula. In 1920 the castle was donated by the people of Brasov to the Romanian royal family. King Ferdinand I and his wife Marie of Edinburgh refurbished it to a royal accommodation. In 1948 the building was nationalized by the communist government. In 2006, the Romanian government returned the castle to the son of Princess Ileana and Anton of Austria-Tuscany, Dominic of Habsburg (1937), who considered selling it but eventually turned it into a museum.
