Recently I visited Huis Doorn and actually met a lady who did some resaerch on this book.

I read this excellent book in one go and was quite impressed by it. "Kaiserin" - she like that title even so she married "The Kaiser" after the Empire was no more - was a quite controversial figure and historic reputation did not treat her nicely. This was proeprly due to the fact that she replaced too soon the Kaiser's first wife and secondly that she did not stop from supporting the Nazis as she saw them as the tools for the restauration of the monarchy.

This books explains, without excusing and clearly states where she was wrong. It explains however much more about her and her life before the marriage. One suddenly meets an interesting, well-educated woman, a princess in her own rights who had by all means no easy life. There is nevertheless something very, very positive about her, a fighter.

It is a small book, but by far the best insofar. My perception of the Empress has changed and I can only recommend this book. Excellent!!
